Methods• Aim: To evaluate one year correlates of EtG positive and EtG negative
patients (relapse and hospitalization). To estimate costs related to addictiontreatment in the following year.
• Design: Retrospective analysis of clinical data produced during the following12 months after study I.
• Sample: Same as study I.
• Procedure: Data collection from electronic medical charts. Relapseoperationalized as either hospitalization, positive urine sample or clinicaldiagnosis.
• Statistical analyses: Survival analysis for the main outcome (relapse).Regression models for economic and hospitalization risk estimations.

Mean survival time :163 days (EtG+) vs.329 (EtG-)
Cox regression model: EtG only significantpredictor : hazard ratio = 5,3 (95% CI: 3,1 to 9,1).
Linear regression: positive EtG at baseline only significantpredictor of increased number of days hospitalized,
b=5,3 (95% CI: 2,1 to 8,4).
Mean cost: 2.167 € (EtG+) vs.566 € (EtG-).
In the regression analysis, only EtG status was a significantpredictor.

Methods
Study III
• Aim: To investigate if regular alcohol urine screening serves other purposes beyondabstinence monitoring, what attitudes patients display towards it and patients’technical knowledge about basic screening notions.
• Design: Cross-sectional survey study.
• Instrument: We adapted the Drug Attitude Inventory (DAI-10) to the field ofalcohol urine screening. For technical knowledge assessment we used multiple-choice and Likert-type questions.
• Procedure: Outpatients attending our Unit were consecutively offered studyparticipation.
• Statistical analysis: Internal consistency, test-retest reliability and concurrentvalidity were evaluated for the adapted questionnaire. Lineal regressionanalysis to search for DAI-10 score predictors.

Bestimmung von PEth in dried blood spots (DBS)
• genauso reliabel wie in Vollblut Proben
Vorteile:• Probengewinnung möglich durch nicht-medizinisches Personal (Kapillar-Blut)• Transport leichter, kein spezieller Behälter, keine Kühlung notwendig• HIV, Hep C: Zerstörung der Hülle -> Reduktion des Risikos für Infektionen
