This Semester the lecture will give an introduction in the physics of cold atoms: Topics will include :Atoms interacting with light fields, laser cooling and trapping, magnetic trapping, evaporative cooling, the route to BEC, ion traps, molecular slowing, molecular trapping, precision experiments, atomic clocks.

• Guest Lecture: Foundations of Quantum Information 141.A26 WS Pof. Kae NEMOTO (National Institute of Informatics, Tokyo)
In her guest lecture Prof. Nemoto will give an introduction in the foundations of Quantum Information Processing, Quantum communication and Quantum Networks. Emphasis will be put on photonic quantum information, and its implementation in the laboratory, including the problems arising from the imperfections in real world implementations and how these can be overcome by quantum error correction. The lecture (theory based) is aimed at experimentalists and non-experts.
