A I M Sachen nternational ining ymposia thwelcomes you to the 5 International Symposium
“Focus Areas:
Automation, Communication, Infrastructure
in cooperation with RAG Deutsche Steinkohle & Mining Equipment Association of VDMA
sponsored by Becker Mining Systems AG
Eickhoff Bergbautechnik GmbHHilti
Dear Delegate,
it is an honour and a pleasure for me, as the Head of the Institute of
High Performance Mining”
Mining Engineering I at the RWTH Aachen University and as the chairman of the Executive Committee of AIMS, to invite you to the 5th International Symposium “High Performance Mining” here in Aachen.
The AIMS series of symposia has to come to be recognized by the mining society as a leader in promoting the international transfer of technology. In view of the expressed interest by mining professionals from around the world, AIMS Symposia like “Rockbolting in Mining”, “High-Performance Mine Production” and “Rapid Mine Development” have been organized since 1987 on an annual basis.
This year's symposium will strive to provide a forum for presentation, discussion and evaluation of state-of-the-art and emerging technologies in the field of High Performance Mining with special emphasis to Automation, Communication and Infrastructure.
The event is designed to be a place for the exchange of information among experts, which in times of further internationalization and globalization must not be limited to national or european borders. About 48 presentations by high ranking experts from Australia, Canada, India, Iran, Japan, South Africa, USA and from Europe as Austria, Germany, Greece, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Russia, Sweden and Turkey are contributing to this objective.
Apart from this, companies active in the field of mining will present themselves in an exhibition.
Take a look at the preliminary program and I look forward to seeing you in Aachen.
The town of Aachen is situated in the heart of Europe and well known for its´ beautiful historical city center, in particular the ancient cathedral and the city hall.
RAG Deutsche Steinkohle and Mining Equipment Association of VDMA, the City of Aachen and the RWTH Aachen University.
Exhibition space is still available at the conference and interested companies should contact the organizers for further information.
At this point, I would like to thank a large number of people for their help organizing and executing such an event. This includes authors, presenters and chairmen and the companies who support us by advertising in the proceedings. In particular I would like to thank our sponsors Becker Mining Systems AG, Eickhoff Bergbautechnik GmbH, Hilti and our partners
Come and take the opportunity to discuss the new and topical themes of hands on experience and research and development with other experts of the mining world. We hope that you will be able to join us at the symposium, and look forward to extending a warm welcome to all delegates and affiliates.

Motivation
High performance mining is a synonym for increased efficiency, increased productivity and higher production rates in raw materials extraction. These became the deciding factors in determining the economic success of a mining operation.
The global trend in underground mining operations is towards ever increasing productivity. The important factors affecting productivity are:
Automation, Communication,
Infrastructure
These encompass: advances in propulsion and extraction technology, logistics, preventative maintenance, planning and organisation.
The focal point will therefore be the continuous development of technologies aimed at improving performance and productivity. Benchmarking between different mining operations and sectors can point out areas which have potential for improvement.
The symposium continues to provide a platform for knowledge exchange between international representatives of mining, tunnelling, suppliers, authorities and research.
Within the framework of AIMS (Aachen International Mining Symposia) the Institute of Mining Engineering I is pleased to announce the
th 5 International Symposium

Motivation
5. Internationale Kolloquium
High Performance Mining
Schwerpunkte:Automatisierung, Kommunikation,
Infrastruktur
Termin: 3. und 4. Juni 2009
Ort: Aachen
