Oberflchenbehandlung Surface treatment
Nitrieren: Nitriding:
The nitriding process reduces the steels corrosionresistance. It is applied in cases where increasedfriction and wear resistance is required (e. g. forpump shafts).
Plasma nitriding: in combination with precipi-tation hardening;Hardness penetration depth:0.1 - 0.15 mm
Obtainable surface hardness:approx. 67 HRC (converted).
Entzundern: Descaling:
The method most frequntly employed is that ofsandblasting.Picklingafter solution annealing or after hot for-ming may be performed by the same methods asare employed for stainless austenitic standardsteel grades.
Passivationor slight pickling canbecarriedout
in a 10% nitric acid, 2% hydrofluoric acid at 40 to60C (105 to 140F), with a holding time of afew minutes. This treatment also removes the surface discolo-ration caused by solution annealing. These stainsmay reduce the materials corrosion resistance.
Removal is also possible beelectropolishing.Descaling according to thesalth bath methodexerts an ageing effect.

Bestndigkeitsschaubilder Corrosion resistance diagrams
In the diagrams shown, constant weight losses de-termined experimentally on specimens exposed tothe attack of different acids are plotted as a
function of temperature and acid concentration. The curves represent constant weight losses of0.3 g/m2 x hr.Generally, a weight losses of 0.3 g/m2 x hr is consi-dered the limit beyond which the use of the steelbecomes uneconomical.
