The initial start-up and matching up of the control unit to local conditions and thestructural characteristics of the building must be carried out by your heatingcontractor. We recommend you contact your local heating contractor if you are planning tostart up the heating system that has not been used for a long period.
1. Switch ON the mains power.Your heating system and theVitotrol 100 room temperature con-troller (if installed) are now readyfor operation.
2. Check the pressure of the heatingsystem by moving the rotary selec-tors „tw “ and „tr“ to „9“. Thesystem pressure appears on thedisplay.Minimum system pressure 1.0bar.If the pressure of the system is toolow, please notify your heating con-tractor.
Heizungsanlage einschalten

Ein- und Ausschalten5581552
Your Vitodens can be operated in the following modes:„Heating“ or „DHW“ .
Heating mode
If a Vitotrol 100 room temperaturecontroller, or a similar programmableroom thermostat, is connected, it isused to set the required room tempe-rature.Please refer to the separate operatinginstructions.
If the setting on the room temperaturecontrol unit is inadequate for achie-ving the required room temperature(e.g. during an extremely cold winter),the heating water temperature canalso be modified using the rotaryselector „tr“.
DHW heating - combi boiler
In the event of a demand for hotwater, the appliance will detect waterflow and initiate the ignitionsequence. The fan (and pump) willstart and the boiler will light. If the hot water demand is near to themaximum design flow rate the boilerwill run continuously at full output untilthe tap is closed or the flow rate isreduced, the heat input will be redu-ced to maintain a steady pre-set tem-perature at the tap.
Hot water is available almost instanta-neously from the boiler, but the finaloutlet temperature and the delay inreaching full temperature will dependon the flow rate and the distance fromthe boiler to the tap. When the tap is closed the boiler willreturn to heating mode, if there is ademand for heating, otherwise theboiler will shut down until the nextdemand for heating or hot water.
Heating
Switching ON:Turn rotary selector „tr“ to therequired heating water temperature. If central heating is active the indica-tor „r“ appears on the display.Switching OFF:Turn rotary selector „rt“ to „9“.

Checking the system pressure
1. Turn both rotary selectors „tr“and „tw“ anticlockwise as far aspossible „9“ (turn selector „tr“only for system boiler).
1. The current system pressure (e.g.1.0 bar) then appears on the dis-play.
2. Return both rotary selectors to theiroriginal positions.
HinweisIf the system pressure drops below0.6 bar, it flashes on the display. If thisoccurs, please notify your heatingcontractor.

Shutting down the heating system
Shut down your heating system completely, if it will not be needed for longerperiods of time (several months). We recommend you contact your local heating contractor if you plan to takeyour heating system out of use for longer periods. Your heating contractor canthen take suitable measures such as frost protection or heating surface preser-vation as required.
1. Close the main gas shut-off valveand safeguard against unauthori-sed reopening.
2. Switch OFF the power. The power to the system is nowswitched off.Note that the system is no longerfrost protected.

Along with using a modern heating system, you can save additional energy byyour own actions. The following steps will help you with this:
& Correct ventilation/airing.& Briefly open windowsA fully and atthe same time close thermostaticvalvesB.
& Never overheat rooms;& endeavour to achieve a room tem-perature of 20 °C; every degree ofroom temperature reduction savesup to 6% of your heating bills.
& Close roller shutters (where instal-led) at dusk.
& Set thermostatic valvesB cor-rectly.
& Never cover radiatorsC or ther-mostatic valvesB.
& Utilise the setting options offered bycontrol unitD.
