3. General Product Information

3.1 Product Function and Intended Use

The EUT BM83 Bluetooth Audio Development Kit (BM83 EVB) enables evaluation and development with the BM83 module and IS2083BM System-on-Chip (SoC). This kit is used to develop multiple Bluetooth audio applications including portable speakers and headphones. This kit features an on-board PIC32 for Host MCU mode applications, an external codec for improved audio quality, a digital microphone to capture voice audio, indicator LEDs and buttons for development.

4. Test Set-up and Operation Modes

4.1 Principle of Configuration Selection

Emission: The equipment under test (EUT) was configured to measure its highest possible radiation level. The test modes were adapted accordingly in reference to the instructions for use.

Immunity: The equipment under test (EUT) was configured to have its highest possible susceptibility against the tested phenomena. The test modes were adapted accordingly in reference to the instructions for use.

4.2 Operation Modes

As per manufacturer request, all EMI/EMC tests were performed on Mode 1, Mode 2 and Mode 3.

The operation modes used for testing are:

A. EUT to be operated through 240 VAC, 50Hz with Bluetooth (2.4GHz) communication operating mode.

B. EUT to be operated through 100 VAC, 50Hz with Bluetooth (2.4GHz) communication operating mode.

C. EUT to be operated through 240 VAC, 50Hz and by keeping the Bluetooth module in Standalone mode.

E. EUT to be operated through 230 VAC, 50Hz with Bluetooth (2.4GHz) communication operating mode.

F. EUT to be operated through battery power and 5V USB power is supplied to charge battery with Bluetooth (2.4GHz) communication operating mode.

G. EUT to be operated through battery power and 5V USB power is supplied to charge battery by keeping the Bluetooth module in standalone mode.

4.3 Physical Configuration for Testing

4.4 Test Operation & Test Software

Mode 1 (Embedded mode with External Codec): The BM83 module is driving the I2S audio out to the external codec (Audio Daughter Board). The BM83 module is connected to the external codec over I2S and I2C. The 15 V power adapter is connected for powering the system. During testing, EUT was powered 100-240VAC, 50Hz using AC-DC adapter. Speaker was connected to external codec and audio was playing continuously through Bluetooth communication throughout the test.

Mode 2 (Embedded Mode with Internal Codec): The BM83 module uses internal codec to drive the audio. The power is used supplied through the USB source with battery connected. Battery power is supplied to EUT and 5V USB power is also supplied to charge the battery. During the test the EUT was powered through the 5VDC USB powered from laptop with battery connected. Speaker was connected to internal codec and audio was playing continuously through Bluetooth communication throughout the test.

Mode 3 (Host MCU Mode): The host MCU (on-board PIC32 MCU) is connected to the BM83 module over UART. The host MCU is controlling the BM83 module and driving the I2S audio out from the BM83 to an external Audio Daughter Board. The 15 V power adapter is connected for powering the system. During testing, EUT was powered 100-240VAC, 50Hz using AC-DC adapter. Speaker was connected to external codec and audio was playing continuously through Bluetooth communication throughout the test.

During and after the test following parameters were monitored.

Note:

The EUT was placed on a non-conductive table 80cm above the ground plane. Before final measurements of radiated emissions were performed, the EUT was scanned to determine its emission spectrum profile.

The spectrum was examined from 30MHz to 6GHz. At each frequency selected for final measurement, the EUT was rotated 360° in order to determine the emission’s maximum level. Measurements were taken using both horizontal and vertical antenna polarizations.

For frequencies between 30MHz and 1GHz, measurements were performed with a receiver operating in the CISPR quasi-peak detection mode. The receiver’s 6 dB bandwidth was set to 120kHz.

For the frequencies between 1GHz and 6GHz, measurements were performed with a receiver operating in the CISPR Peak detection & Average detection mode. The receiver’s 6dB bandwidth was set to 1MHz.

Disturbances other than those mentioned are small or not detectable.
