TA1 = 9550 in Nm
Selbsthemmung
Anlaufwirkungsgrad ηA
η´= 2 - _1η

The efficiency ratings given in performance tables for thecylindrical worm gears are average or guide values. They apply to well-run-in cylindrical worm gears at operatingtemperature with anti-friction bearing, correct lubrication anddriving worm shaft at the respective operating rotationalspeed under nominal load and continuous duty. Efficiencyimproves with rising sliding velocity (vg ) at the gear teeth(rotational speed and influence of size), with increasing meanhelix angle γm (i.e. with decreasing transmission ratio i ) andwith improvement of the surface quality of the worm shaft‘stooth flanks.
We know from experience that the degree of efficiency in newgears is lower according to transmission ratio than that givenin the performance tables. The values there must be multipledby the following factors:
The starting efficiency ηA of a cylindrical worm gear is alwaysless than the efficiency at operating rotational speed undernominal load and continuous duty due to the large coefficientof tooth friction µZ at low running speeds.
When starting the worm gear under load, a greater drivingtorque TA1 is necessary due to the reduced starting efficiency.TA1 is calculated as follows:
TA1 = 9550 in Nm
The starting efficiency like the operating efficiency is a factorof the size of the mean helix angle of the worm shaft. Thefavourable influence of a larger mean helix angle on startingapplies here also. The following specifed starting efficiency ratings are guidevalues, as are the operating efficiency ratings in theperformance tables. They apply to warmed-up gears, lubricated with synthetic oil.The starting efficiency ratings for new gears are lower, as in thecase of operating efficiency.
Efficiency η
Efficiency ratings and difficulties involvedin automatic self-locking
It is essential for performance and durability that thegear be well warmed up.In very abnormal operating conditions, e.g. very shortrunning times followed by long pauses, the degree ofefficiency stated cannot be attained. We shall be happy to answer queries in such cases.
Step-up gearing
The total effiency η is thus always less than with drivingworm shaft. It can be seen here that multistart motordrive worms, due to their favourable efficiency - 4-speedworm in GFC worm wheel sets - enable drive from theworm wheel side, i.e. speed increasing transmission.
One differentiates between static and dynamic automaticinterlock in worm gears.
Static automatic interlock exists when the startingefficiency ηA ≤ 0.5. Starting the worm shaft is not possiblethen with driving worm wheel. This automatic interlock cansometimes be cancelled with external excitation ofvibrations, i.e. starting the worm shaft with driving wormwheel is then possible in this case.
Dynamic self-locking (automatic interlocking while inmotion) occurs when the operational efficiency η ≤ 0,5. Itarises in worm gear according to their surface quality andtooth bearing size at mean helix angles of γm = 2.5° to 4°.
Automatic interlock
Starting efficiency ηA
GFC worm gear self-locking as a function of transmission ratio:
transmission i = 5 to 25 no self-lockingtransmission i = 31,5 to 50 static self-locking, possible return motion when vibratingtransmission i = 63 to 100 static self-locking, reverse motion only conditionally possible when vibrating
Self-locking worm gears are uneconomic on account of theirbad overall efficiency and the consequent high loss of power, particularly in larger sizes and at long operating times. In drivecases where automatic interlocking is necessary, the feasibilityof mounting a backstop or a brake as a more favourablesolution should always be checked first. An automaticinterlocking gear cannot take the place of a brake.

Guidelines for selecting gears
The outputs and torques given in the selecting tables apply forwell run-in, properly lubricated gears at operating temperaturewith rated load and driving worm shaft under the followingconditions:
• continuous duty S1 with uniform load and 8 hours operating time a day• Ambient temperature 20° Celsius• Lubricant temperature 100° Celsius• Twice the driving torque can be transmitted during start-up, whereby 5 start-ups per hour are permissible.
Allowance must be made for abnormal operating conditionsby multiplying efficiency by factors. The factors given are guide values. It is advisable to choose the worm gears to suit themachine´s driving torque. It is important to differentiate herebetween mechanical and thermal stress.

Selecting the gear size
Choosing the gear size is determined by the larger of thetwo calculated values. Calculation is as follows:
Tmech. req. = fB x fH x Ta
Tmech. req. = required mechanical output moment gearTa = driven machine torque [Nm]fB = factor for operation ratio (table 1)fH = factor for starting frequency (table 2)
Tth. req. = required thermal output moment gearfE = factor for operating time (table 3)fT = factor for ambient temperature (table 4)fL = factor for service position (table 5)
Tth.req. = fE x fT x fL x Ta

The radial forces given here preclude the simultaneous utilizationof the axial forces FA and only apply in cases of unilateral stress. The radial forces given were determined on the basis of thecontrary angle of force application α and rotational direction withthe application of force in the middle of the shaft end. Individualcalculations using angle of force application α , force and rota-tional direction are recommended when the radial stress is higherthan the permissible values listed in the table or if combinedforces occur. Please consult us in such cases.

Anbau und Befestigung von Aufsteck-Getriebemotoren/GetriebenMounting and securing the slip-on worm gears /gearsDrehmomentstützen / Torque converter bearings
Slip-on worm gears must be positioned axially on the drivenmachine shaft. Power transmission with a flexible bushing absorbstorque jolting and prevents torque biases in the drive. It must betaken into account that this causes shaft displacement betweenthe prime mover and the worm shaft. We recommend you tomount the prime mover onto the slip-on worm gear by means ofa flange or to use a universal joint.
After a long period of use, problems may emerge pulling off theslip-on gears (caused by atmospheric or environmental influencesand frictional corrosion). To facilitate removing the slip-on gear, werecommend you make a bore as shown in the above illustration atthe end of the shaft of the driven machine before assembling. Onconnecting an injector or pump, this bore can be used for applyingrust solvent to the wheel body seat when necessary. It is necessary for this to have the cross hole opening into the areawhere the shaft was hollowed out by turning. To avoid tribocorrosion we recommend you treat the drivenmachine’s shaft with MoS2 surface protectiuon.

When slip-on gear motors/gears with torque converter bearingsare used, external forces act on the driven machine shaft. Thepoint of application of force and the direction of effect depend onthe position of the torque converter bearing and on the rotationaldirection. The torque converter bearing is to be placed on the drivenmachine side of the slip-on gear motors/gears so that the bendingstress and strain on the driven machine shaft is limited by theexternal forces. The fastening bolt for the torque converter bearing must besupported on both sides.

The output torque is equal but opposite to the reaction torque.By selecting the appropriate point of application of force anddirection of effect of the external force and in combination withthe force from gear mass, a reduction of the external force actingon the driven machine shaft can be effected.

Betriebsbedingungen

Beispiel: Anschlußspannung 100% = 230V AC Ausgangsspannung 88% = 202,4V DC Bremsspulenspannung 205V DC
Beispiel: Anschlußspannung 100% = 400V AC Ausgangsspannung 45% = 180V DC Bremsspulenspannung 180V DC

ModifikationenModifications
GFC worm gear motor units BG 100 … 250 are supplied withVEM three-phase a.c. induction motors containing squirrel-cagerotors in a rated power range of 0,37 to 55,0 kW. Pole-changing,brake, and explosion-proof motors are also available. The motors are constructed in accordance with the relevantGerman standards and regulations and also in compliance withvarious foreign directions which conform to IEC-Publ. 34-1.All motors have the following as standard:• system of protection IP 55• thermal class F• design B14
Voltage and frequency
In the basic construction the motors are supplied with thefollowing rated voltages:
230/400 V D/Y 50 Hz 400/690 V D/Y 50 Hz 690 V D 50 Hz 460 V D 60 Hz
220/380 V D/Y 50 Hz 380/660 V D/Y 50 Hz 660 V D 50 Hz 440 V D 60 Hz
The motors can be operated without alteration of rated output inpower supply systems in which voltage deviates from the ratedvalue at rated frequencies of up to ± 5%.Other voltages and frequencies are possible on request. Motorswith winding for 50Hz can also be connected to 60Hz networks. If the voltage remains constant, the rotational speed increasesby 20% and the output remains the same. However, if thevoltage is increased, the rotational speed also increases by 20%and there is an increase in output; the output increases by thesame percentage as the percentage of voltage increase but notmore than by the percentage of increase in rotational speed.

Operating conditions
The selecting tables are arranged in accordance with the ratedmotor outputs. These rated outputs apply under the followingpreconditions:• continuous duty S1 in accordance with DIN VDE 0530 sect. 1• coolant temperature up to 50 0 C• installation height up to 1,000 m above sea level• basic construction‘ s rated voltage• operating frequency 50 HzIn the case of deviating operating conditions, the output valueswill vary by the multiplying factors listed in the following tables.
The rated output of the motor should correspond as closelyas possible to the output requirements of the respectivedriving situation. A motor rated too high as regards outputwill operate uneconomically because the power factor andthe efficiency are much less favourable in underload than infull load.
Modes of operation:
The motor listed in the output tables are designed for the S1mode of operation (continuous duty) in accordance with VDE0530. The following details are necessary if a motor is to bedesigned for other modes of operation:• load moment characteristic curve covering starting, braking and r.p.m. range• flywheel mass to be driven, specific to the motor shaft• type of braking.

Depending on the operating conditions, some of the basicmodel motors (S1) with higher output can be run in short-timeduty S2 and S3, if an increase in starting and stalling torque isnot necessary. Often, however, a special winding must beconsidered. If required, please send us concrete details so thatwe can select the most favourable motor for the respectivedriving conditions.

Temperature of surroundings
All standard motors can be used in ambient temperaturesof -35 0C to +50 0C.
Overload capacity
In accordance with DIN VDE 0530, all motors can be exposedto the following overload conditions:• 1,5 times the rated current for 2 min.• 1,6 times the rated torque for 15 sec. Both conditions apply for rated voltage and rated frequency.
Cooling and ventilation
The motors are cooled with radial fans made of plastic or castaluminium alloy. These cool the motor independently of itsrotational direction (IC 0141 in accordance with DIN IEC 34,section 6).When mounting the gear motor unit, take care that sufficientspace is left between the fan cowl and the wall for air access.
53
Systems of protection
The standard GFC worm gear motor units are supplied with theIP 55 degree of protection and thermal class F.
Other systems of protection are possible on request:• construction with IP 66 degree of protection• construction with FT II weatherproofing• construction with thermal winding protection The motors can be supplied with temperature-measuring sensors (PTC resistors) or microthermostatic switches to protect them from overheating. This ensures an effective protection for the stator winding against one or more phases burning through. However, in blocking it does not always eliminate the need for the motor protection switch.• Explosion-proof construction, type of protection „increased safety“ EExe in accordance with the European standards EN50014/50019• Gear motors in marine engineering construction• Construction in thermal class H.
Motors with second shaft end
The motor listed in selecting tables can also be supplied with asecond shaft end. This shaft end is capable of bearing up to 50% of the rated outputwithout radial stress.
Pole- changing motors withsquirrel- cage rotors
The rotational speeds of motors are determined by the numberof poles and the frequency. For a reasonable price, squirrel-cage motors can be constructed with 2, 3, or in special cases,4 rotational speeds. Such motors often replace slip-ring motorsor other variable-speed motors.
Pole-changing motors to suit the driven maschine‘scountercurrent characteristics are provided for:• driven with constant load torque and• driven with square-law load torque.
The motors can only be constructed for a rated voltage, e.g.230V, 400V or 690V, and are generally designed for directcircuit-closing through the sequence of poles. The three-phasecurrent rated voltage between two main conductors musttherefore be stated clearly, e.g. 220V or 380V, not 220/380V.60 Hz constructions or IEC 38 special voltages are possible.
Pole reversal is effected by means of:• two separate windings in the stator, e.g. 6-4 poles• a winding in Dahlander pole-changing connection, e.g. 8-4 poles• two separate windings, one of which is in Dahlander pole-changing circuit, e.g. 8-6-4 poles• two separate windings, both in Dahlander pole-changing circuit, e.g. 12-8-6-4 poles
While the winding in Dahlander pole-changing circuit onlyallows a speed ratio of 1 : 2 to be attained, two separatewindings offer other speed stages, albeit with lower output incomparison to the basic model. All actuating operations arecarried out for separate windings in accordance with D/YY orY/YY.The following switching operations occur with the individualpole number stages:
Star connections can be effected for the larger number of poles(lowest rotational speed) if their service connection is in delta.Other pole versions are possible.

Brake motors always have their holding torque in a voltagelesscondition. In this case, pressure springs effect a force on theaxially-mobile armature disc, which builds up the braking torquethrough the friction lining. The braking torque is transmitted tothe shaft by means of a feather key connection on the frictionlining holder or an indented driving spline. By applying d.c.voltage to the brake coil, the magnetic field acts on thearmature disc and this in turn releases the friction lining holderso that the motor can accelerate.
Brake motors
Worm gear motor units (SM) are equipped with brake motorsfrom the B21R series. As regards their most important features such as connectiondimensions, dimensions (apart from structural length andheights), output and rotational speed, the B21R brake motorseries correspond to the basic motor series of K21R.
They consist of a three-phase squirrel-cage motor and anattached brake of another make. These brakes are designed as single-disc or double-discbrakes. The individual brake systems are compact ready-to-fitand ready-to-connect units, in which a great variety of brakingtorques and constructions can be provided to suit thecustomer‘s requirements.
• Available brake voltages

Connection:
RectifierThe brake coil voltage is normally designed to match the deltavoltage of the motor.
• Bridge rectifierBridge rectifiers are incorporated in the brake motor asstandard and the output voltage is
0,88 x Supply voltage Un
Example: Supply voltage 100% = 230V AC Output voltage 86% = 202,4V DC Brake coil voltage 205V DC
• Half wave rectifierThe incorporated and standard bridge rectifier can bereplaced with a half wave rectifier of the same dimensions. The output voltage is then

Types of connection and response times:
The response times can be influenced by a wide variety ofswitching techniques. In the factory-assembled basic model, the brake coil is actuatedby means of a rectifier module located in the motor terminalbox and parallel to a phase in the motor winding. In the „EL“design the customer supplies the brake coil either with 24V d.c.voltage or with the corresponding a.c. voltage through therectifier component (e.g. through a motor contactor auxiliarycontact). This reduces the brake‘ s tripping time in comparisonto the factory-assembled model. To achieve even shortertripping times the electric circuit must be disconnected on thed.c. voltage side.

Possible coordinations of braking torques with motors:
A choice of brakes with differing torques can be mounted ontoone particular motor. It is advisable for normal use to select brakes which havetorques which correspond to 1.5 to 2 times the motor ratedtorque. In the case of drives for travelling, slewing or swinging
gears these multiplying factors might even be too high onaccount of the trailing masses. In such instances, please give us the exact operatingconditions, including the output side moment of inertia,so that we can calculate the permissible braking torque.

1. IntroductionThese operating instructions apply to all single- and multistageworm gears, gear motors and specialpurpose gears.A precondition for trouble-free operation is the observation of theregulations and tips given here. Nonobservation invalidates allclaims under guarantee.Assembly, starting operation and maintenance work may only becarried out by qualified specialists in compliance with• these instructions• all other operating instructions pertinent to the drive• existing valid national / regional rules (safety / prevention ofaccidents). If the specified demands are not complied with, live and rotatingparts of the drive can cause serious or fatal injuries.
Safety measures:In accordance with the law dating from 24th June 1986 ontechnical tools, the operator must provide safeguards thatrotating parts cannot be touched accidentally.
2. Delivery of the gears2.1 State of deliveryCheck delivery immediately on arrival for damage occurring duringtransport. Inform the transport operator of any defects found. All gears are subjected to a functional test in the manufacturer’sfactory before being dispatched.During the warranty period the gears may only be opened with themanufacturer’s consent. Otherwise all claims under guarantee willbe invalid. The screw plugs for ventilation, oil filling, oil level and oil drainingare marked red. GFC gears are supplied with or without oil fillingas customer wishes.
2.2 PreservationIf stored properly, we guarantee preservation of the interior of thegears and external coating for a period of 12 months. The coatingconsists of air-drying synthetic enamel. The external preservation of bare parts is guaranteed for 6 months. It is necessary that the operator apply more corrosion protectionafter these periods. The guarantee period commences with the date on which the gearis received.
2.3 Storing the gearsGears must be stored in closed rooms on flat surfaces and notstacked one on top of the other. It must be ensured that the gearsare protected from direct sunlight and from damage caused byelectric shocks or vibrations during storage. The relative humiditymay not exceed 70%.The storage time is limited by the periods specified in section 2.2.Correct re-application of onservation protection can extend thestorage period.
3. Mounting the gears3.1 Preliminary remarksThe drive may only be mounted if the following preconditionsexist:• the specifications on the drive’s rating plate must correspond to the values agreed in the contract (voltage, frequency, torque, rotational speed, transmission),• the drive is in perfect condition (no transport or storage damage)• in standard gears: ambient temperature: -10°C ... 30° C, no dust, no chemicals, acids, gases etc.• in special-purpose gears or in the case of modifications: construction in accordance with the ambient conditions set out in the contract.
3.2 Removing preservationBefore assembly remove the anticorrosive agents completely fromexposed shaft ends, bore holes, hollow shafts and flanges. Theusual commercial solvents must be used for this purpose. Toprevent the rotary shaft lip seals being damaged, care must betaken that they do not come into contact with the solvent.
3.3 Gear substructureThe gear must be mounted along with the machine to be drivenon an even, vibration-absorbing and distortion-resistant base. Thebase must be designed for the inertial and driving forces so thatno additional forces can occur due to torque bias and distortion.Screws of the property class specified in the GFC catalogue mustbe used to secure the gear on the base.
3.4 Replacing the plug screws (gears with oil filling)Before starting operation the plug screw must be replaced by thevent screw included in the delivery. It is essential that the oil filling be checked to see if it suits theparticular gear model. The position of the oil level checking screwand the vent screw can be found in the GFC catalogue.
4. Assembly4.1 Gears with exposed shaft endsThe shafts must be aligned very carefully in the interest of safeworking conditions and silent operation. We recommend theuse of torsionally-flexible couplings to counterbalance smallinaccuracies in assembly. The use of toothed gear type couplings is permitted.Coupler units require static balancing at peripheral speeds of upto 20 m/s and dynamic balancing at peripheral speeds of over20 m/s.Consideration must be given to the permissible radial forces at theinput shaft and output shaft ends when using rigid coupling unitsand elements which generate radial force, such as pulleys, toothedwheels, etc.The drive and output elements can be mounted with the aid of afitting tool or by heating the appropriate part.
Do not under any circumstances attempt to mount by strikingwith a hammer (this would cause damage to the toothprofiles, roller bearings, housing and shaft).
The gear may only be mounted in the fitting position orderedbecause the gear has been constructed and lubricated to suit thisposition. The screw plugs for checking oil level, for draining oil and forventilation must be freely accessible. The air supply for cooling the gears and motors may not beobstructed. The following minimum distances from the ventilatorcap to the wall or to other construction parts may not beexceeded.
Sizes 100 - 160 ➜ Min. distance 30 mmSize 250 ➜ Min. distance 40 mm
When transporting the gears, the regulations for industrial safetyand for the use of load suspension devices must be observed.Gears with ventilators may not be transported by means of theprotective cowl. Use the eyebolts and supporting hooks whichare provided when transporting gears with the aid of hoists.

4.2 Gears with bore hole in the drive shaft (input hollow shaft) suitable for mounting a standard IEC motor.A suitable anti-seize must be applied to the rotor shaft toprevent frictional corrosion.
4.3 Slip-on gearsHollow-shaft gears can be slipped directly onto the shaft of themachine to be driven. The principle of axial location can befound in the respective catalogue. In the case of flange gears, care must be taken that themounting surface is fixed at an exact right angle to the axis ofthe machine to be driven in order to prevent torque bias in thegears and driven machine.
4.3.1 Hollow shaft with featherkey wayAssembly and dismantling will be easier if• a fitting tool or pulling-off mechanism is used• a suitable anti-seize is applied to the driven machine’s shaft toprotect it against frictional corrosion.
Further tips on assembling or dismantling the gear withoutdifficulty are listed in the relevant GFC catalogue.
4.3.2 Hollow shaft for mounting a shrink-on diskClamping screws may not be tightened without an insertedshaft as this can lead to plastic deformation in the hollow shaft. The driven machine's shaft should be machined to a largerdiameter between the supporting surfaces as stated in theassembly recommendation in the catalogue. This measureprevents frictional corrosion forming between the hollow shaftand the driven machine’s shaft in this area.Assembly of the shrink-on disk:1. Remove spacers between the outer rings (if there are any there)2. Carefully remove the grease from the hollow-shaft bore hole and driven machine’s shaft in the pressing area.3. Mount shaft or push the slip-on gear onto the driven machine’s shaft.4. Tighten the clamping screws • successively • with the same tightening torque as in the table or in the case of special-purpose or customized constructions with the same screw tightening torque given on the outer ring of the screw-on disk.5. Check the tightening torque, after the specification of the manufacturer.
4.3.3 Assembling the torque converter bearingsThe output torque must be taken up by a torque converterbearing mounted onto the housing by means of an elasticcomponent. In order to avoid additional bending stress and strain, the torqueconverter bearing must always be arranged on the machine sideof the gear. The lever length of the torque converter bearingshould amount to approximately 2.5 times the gear’s centredistances.
Caution: When using turnbuckles or similar fulcrumdevices, the effective lever arm must be equal to theshortest connection between the turnbuckle’s axis andthe hollow shaft.
Avoid in all cases fixing the gear directly onto the base plate ifthe machine’s shaft is bedded near the gear.More tips on the torque converter bearings which can besupplied and the various mounting possibilities can be found inthe relevant GFC catalogue.Use screws of the 8.8 property class to fix the torque converterbearing to the gear’s housing.
5. Starting operation5.1 Breaking-in procedureBefore starting operation, check that the ventilation provided isnot blocked by bits of paint or other dirt deposit. Blocked ven-tilation leads to increased inner pressure and thus to leaks. Each gear should be run-in with no load for some time first andthen with under approx. 50% of the rated load for several hours. If certain circumstances preclude operation with partial load, the gear should be repeatedly stopped once an oil temperatureof approx. 80 - 90°C is reached. A good run-in is crucial for theefficiency and durability of the worm gear. The specified charac-teristic values for the gear can only be transmitted in well-run-ingears. With respect to gears which work in reversing duty bothrotational directions need their own run-in periods.
5.2 Electrical connection (gear with flange-mounted motor; gear motor units)We enclose a circuit diagram in the terminal box in all motorswhich shows how the motor should be connected. It is advis-able in all cases to use a protective motor switch to safeguardagainst overload or two-phase flow. The overcurrent relay mustbe set to the rated amperage assigned to the respective ratedvoltage (see rating plate).Earth leads or protective conductors must be connected to theearthing terminal provided.
6. Maintenance and inspection6.1 General inspection workMaintenance work on the gear includes checking- temperature of the gear housing (temperatures up to approx. 90°C when using synthetic oil and approx. 70°C when using mineral oil are generally recognized as safe),- oil level,- gear noise,- that there is no leakage of oil,- the water content in the lubricant (observe condensation of water during operating time),- cleanliness of the vent valve/ventilation bore hole, and changing the oil at the required intervals.
6.2 Lubrication6.2.1 Lubrication instructionsThe usual method of lubricating the gears is splash lubrication. This type of lubrication ensures that the roller bearings areautomatically supplied with oil.To prevent overheating, bearings which are lubricated withgrease should not be filled with grease completely. Care mustbe taken that mineral oil is not used for a gear designed forsynthetic lubricants.Furthermore, it is not permissible to mix mineral and syntheticoils together. When changing oil or if it is necessary to refill or add more oil,use the oil specified on the rating plate. When filling the oil, in particular in two-stage gears with oilchambers linked together, wait until the oil has spread overallevenly and the final oil level can be seen.Oil change intervals:Due to the contamination of the oil occurring during the run-inperiod (nonferrous metallic powder) the first oil change must bedone after 150 hours of operation. After that, the usual oil change intervals apply:➜ mineral oil: 4,000 hours of operation or 15 months➜ synthetic oil: 15,000 hours of operation or 60 monthsUnder particular ambient conditions (e.g. dust) it is necessaryto check after 2,000 hours of operation if the oil may be usedfurther (check content of solid foreign matter).
60
6.2.2 Checking oil1. Open oil draining screw plug and remove some oil2. Check condition of oil (colour, quality) ➜ change oil if necessary3. Check filling height • unscrew the oil level checking screw plug (find position in the relevant GFC catalogue) - check filling level and correct if necessary. - screw in oil level checking screw plug.
6.2.3 Filling for the first time and changing the oilWhen filling the gear for the first time, proceed as described inthe following as from point 4.Oil must be changed while still at operating temperature asotherwise the oil will not be able to flow properly and then it willbe difficult to empty it correctly. In the case of gears which are used in the service positionV5/V5II, the gear should be changed to the service position B3if possible. The oil to be filled in must have a minimumtemperature of 20°C.It is essential to check before starting to change the oil thatthe gear surface is only warm to touch as otherwise therewill be a serious danger of burning due to hot oil !
1. Place a collecting basin under the oil draining screw plug.2. Remove the oil level checking, oil draining and ventilation screw plugs.3. Drain oil completely.4. Rinse gears with thin-bodied oil. (check compatibility with the lubricant being used).5. Screw in oil draining screw plug.6. Fill new oil through vent bore hole. ➜ check through oil level checking screw plug.7. Screw in oil level screw plug.8. Screw in vent screw plug.
6.2.4 Lubricant selection and lubricant tableThe selection of the lubricant is decided by the output torque, size and the worm rotational speed.PG 460 is recommended for sizes 100 to 250.The selection is in accordance with the input rotational speed ofthe respective stage. The following table can be used to decide on the lubricant forambient temperatures which are appro-priate for standard gears(-10°C ... 30°C).Please consult us if the temperatures deviate from this specifiedrange.
If a mineral oil is used, the power transmitted is less than if asynthetic lubricant is used.
The firms are listed in alphabetical order and so there is nocorrelation between the sequence of names and the oil quality. We recommend you use these lubricants or others which areequally good. The important point is to heed the oil type specified on therating plate (PG or CLP).If you would like a more precise specification of the viscosityclass you require for your particular purpose, we suggest yourefer to DIN 51509 or that you consult us. We cannot guaranteethat each lubricant selected is perfectly suitable.
7. Waste disposal➜ Housing parts toothed wheels, shafts and roller bearingsmust be disposed of as steel scrap.➜ Cast parts must also be disposed as steel scrap if there is noseparate collection.➜ Worm wheels are mostly composed of nonferrous metal andshould be disposed of accordingly.➜ Collect used oil and dispose of it in accordance with scurrentregulations.
