Vietnam – Current Situation
• More energy capacity is needed. Estimates for a tripling of
the energy need within the next 20 years
• Wind maps show Vietnam as one of the most interesting
countries in regard to wind in the region
• Political framework is being created, for example in the
Vietnamese governments Master Plan (PDP)
• Planned projects registered for wind development

Vietnam – Prospects
• Fastest way to add extra power compared to conventional power sources
• Job creation in transport, installation, and also for the service and maintenance.
• We can use locally produced towers which will keep down the CapEx costs.

• Financing is not readily available for wind projects.
• Present holders of projects are lacking experience to develop the
proojects according intl standards.
• Framework offered from FiT and PPA from EVN is not sufficient enough to
attract developers and investors.
• Business environment is a risk – even though the government is
constantly improving the business environment through the legislation in
order to bring compliance up to international levels.
Vietnam - Challenges

Vietnam – Technological Challenges
• Infrastructure need to be improved – harbours
and inland road transport. Currently higher
costs, and also adding risks.
• Grid quality is low. Issues with lack of energy,
and also with distribution. Need capable WECs.
