Talente – das ist auch der Schlüssel-begriff der Tom Talent Holding, unter deren Dach 13 Firmen zusammengefasst sind, darunter die Tom Talent Entertainment AG, die das Festival veranstaltet. Thomas, du lebst in Zermatt, Berlin, in der Toskana und am Zürichsee. Was bedeutet dir der See?Sterchi Als Erstes bedeutet er mir Weite. Ich bin nämlich, seitdem ich hier wohne, noch nicht drin gewesen. Wie?Sterchi Ja, ich bin ein schlechter Schwimmer. Und ich habe ein Boot und keinen Bootsführerschein. Rolf, als neuer Geschäftsführer bist du ständig in Zermatt. Was bedeuten dir die Berge? Wie hast du es mit den Berglern?

Furrer Ich mag die Weite, obwohl da Felswände sind. Und die Offenheit der Menschen. Ich hab‘s gut mit den Leuten und schätze die unterstützende und entgegenkommende Art der Leistungsträger. Du bist auch Drummer der Band „Hecht“. Ihr seid nominiert für den Swiss Music Award in der Kategorie „Best Talent National“. Was könnte da auf dich zukommen?Furrer Viele gute Konzerte. Das ist der grösste Gewinn für Bands, die den Swiss Music Award gewinnen. Träumt ihr von Konzerten im Ausland?Sterchi In den USA verstehen sie so schlecht Schwiitzerdütsch! Furrer Konzerte im Ausland sind kein Thema und das macht das Ganze entspannt. Wir haben letztes Jahr so um dreissig Konzerte gespielt. Thomas, hast du geahnt, als du Rolf als Ge-schäftsführer für das Unplugged engagiert hast, dass nicht nur du findest, er sei ein Talent?Sterchi (zu Rolf Furrer) Es war tatsächlich kaum

ein Thema, oder? Mir war dieses musikalische Talent nicht bewusst.Furrer Es war auch nicht klar, wohin das Projekt „Hecht“ laufen würde. Rolf, habt ihr bei „Hecht“ damit gerungen, wie ihr Mundart und Musik zusammenbringt?Furrer Wir haben gar nicht darüber nachgedacht, dass es Mundart sein wird. Es ging darum, Musik zu machen, wie wir sie gut finden, und wir haben uns so wohler gefühlt, als uns mit englischen Texten abzumühen, wo wir nicht das sagen können, was wir wollen, und wo es noch 50 Bands gibt, die besser sind als wir. Man wird in eine Schublade gesteckt. Das passiert bei Mundart auch. Das ist die Herausforderung, sich hervorzuheben.

Singen viele Schweizer Bands englisch, um erfolgreicher zu sein?Sterchi Ich kann verstehen, dass jeder, der Musik macht, sagt: Hey, ich möchte nicht nur, dass das ein paar Leute in der Deutschschweiz verstehen. Aber aus meiner Sicht sind die meisten Schweizer Bands, die englisch singen, chancenlos im Ausland. Und mit Mundart? BAP hat in Deutschland auch keiner richtig verstanden ausser vielleicht eine Million Kölner.Sterchi Ich habe früher gedacht, die singen Holländisch. Furrer Das sind aber meistens Liebhabersachen. Es ist selten die breite Masse, die sich für so etwas interessiert. Sterchi Die Deutschschweizer orientieren sich nach Deutschland, die Deutschen in die USA. Du orientierst dich am nächst Grösseren. Das neue schwedische Album von Mando Diao finde ich super, aber ob ich das interessant fände, wenn ich nicht die Stimme und den Hintergrund kennen würde? Ich liebe Singer-Songwriter und das ist die

Verbindung von Musik und Wort, und das musst du verstehen, und zwar mit den Feinheiten. Was bietet Zermatt Unplugged jungen Bands anderes als andere Festivals – ausgenommen eine konkurrenzlose Kulisse für den Auftritt?Furrer Einerseits einen Rahmen mit einer gewissen Prominenz. Bei uns sind es keine Side-Events, sondern die New Talents sind ein wesentlicher Bestandteil. Das kommt aus der Tom Talent Holding Philosophie. Wir geben den Bands und ihren Bühnen Relevanz: in der Kommunikation gegen aussen, in der Wertschätzung, wenn sie vor Ort sind. Wir schauen, dass vor Ort der Austausch zwi-schen den bekannten Bands und den New Talents stattfinden kann.

Sterchi Auch die Tatsache, dass die Bands ein paar Tage oben sind. Die kommen nicht nur für einen Gig. So haben sie ein richtiges Musik-Camp. Es gibt neue Veranstaltungen im Rahmen des Festivals. Wie kommen die zustande?Sterchi Wir wollen möglichst viele Leistungsträ-ger einbinden, aber wir haben ein Konzept, hinter dem wir stehen, darum müssen wir das eine oder andere Mal Nein sagen, damit gewisse Grundideen nicht verwässern. Wir wollen das Spezielle integrieren, was Zermatt bieten kann. So sind zum Beispiel die Sunnegga Sessions entstanden. Dieses Jahr haben wir den Farewell Brunch im Chalet Hotel Schönegg neu, um dem Festival einen gebührenden Abschluss zu geben.

Du hast im Interview mit der SonntagsZeitung gesagt, dass du keinen künstlerischen Anspruch verfolgst, sondern am liebsten Stimmungen und Emotionen erweckst. Ist Kultur zur Erbauung da?Sterchi Das war auf meine Person bezogen. Ich bilde mir da nichts ein. Ich habe sehr grossen Respekt vor Künstlern, sei es im Film- oder Musik-geschäft. Ich masse mir nicht an, abschliessende Urteile zu fällen. Ich hatte nicht im Sinn, mit Zermatt Unplugged die relevanteste Kulturveran-staltung ins Leben zu rufen im Sinne von Hoch-kultur, sondern ich möchte einen wunderschönen Event kreieren mit einem kulturellen Anspruch.

Talent – that’s also the key word at Tom Talent Holding, under whose umbrella 13 companies are grouped, including Tom Talent Entertainment AG, which organises the festival. At the company’s head office, we talked about Swiss talent, musical skills and an unbeatable concept.

Thomas, you live in Zermatt, Berlin, in Tuscany and at Lake Zurich. What does the lake mean for you?Sterchi First of all, it means vastness to me. I’ve actually not been in it since I’ve been living here. Really?Yes, I’m a poor swimmer. And I have a boat, but no skipper licence. Rolf, as the new operational manager, you’re constantly

in Zermatt. What do the mountains mean to you? And how do you get on with the mountain folk?I like the vastness, even though there are rock walls. And the openness of the people. I get on well with the people, and appreciate the supportive and accommodating nature of the service providers. You are also the drummer in the “Hecht“ band. You’ve all been nominated for the Swiss Music Award in the “Best National Talent“ category. What could that mean for you?Furrer Lots of good concerts. That’s the biggest reward for bands that win the Swiss Music Award. Do you dream of concerts abroad?Sterchi They don’t understand Swiss-German

very well in the USA!Furrer Concerts abroad are not an issue, and that makes the whole thing more relaxed. We played about thirty concerts last year. Thomas, when you hired Rolf as the Operations Manager, did you have any idea that you wouldn’t be the only one to find out that he’s talented?Sterchi (to Rolf Furrer): It really wasn’t an issue, right? I wasn’t aware of this musical talent.Furrer It also wasn’t clear where the “Hecht“ project would lead. Rolf, have you had to struggle to bring your dialect and music together in “Hecht“?Furrer We didn’t even think about whether it would be dialect. It was just a case of playing music that we liked, and we felt more comforta-ble with that, rather than struggling with English texts where we couldn’t say what we wanted, and where there were 50 other bands that were better at it than us. You get pigeonholed. And that happens with dialect as well. Making yourself stand out – that’s the real challenge. Do many Swiss bands sing in English in order to be more successful ?Sterchi I can understand someone who makes music saying: Hey, I don’t only want a few people from German Switzerland to understand the song. But, in my view, most of the Swiss bands who sing in English have absolutely no chance abroad. And with dialect? Nobody can really understand BAP in Germany, apart from perhaps a million people in Cologne.Sterchi I used to think they were singing in Dutch.Furrer But these are mostly things for enthusiasts. It’s rare for the wider public to be interested in such things.Sterchi The German-speaking Swiss orient themselves towards Germany, the Germans to the USA. You tend to orient yourself to the next biggest thing. I think the new Swedish album from Mando Diao is super, but I don’t know whether I would find it interesting if I didn’t know the voice and the background. I love singer-songwriters, and that is the connection of music and words,

and you have to understand that, together with the finer points. What does Zermatt Unplugged offer young bands that is different from other festivals – apart from an unrivalled backdrop for their appearance?Furrer On the one hand, a framework with a certain amount of celebrity. There are no side events for us, because the New Talents are an impor-tant component. This comes from the Tom Talent Holding philosophy. We give the bands and their stages relevance: in the external communication, in the appreciation when they are there. We make sure that an exchange can take place locally be-tween the well-known bands and the New Talents. Sterchi There’s also the fact that the bands are up there for a few days. They don’t only come for the gig. In the end, we have a real music camp. There are new events within the framework of the festival. How did they arise?Sterchi We want to involve as many key players as possible, but we also have a concept that we stand behind. We therefore have to say “No” now and again so that certain basic ideas don’t become diluted. We want to integrate that special something that Zermatt has to offer. The Sunnegga Sessions, for example, arose that way. This year, we now have the Farewell Brunch in the Chalet Hotel Schönegg, which will provide a fitting con-clusion to the festival. In your interview with the SonntagsZeitung, you said that you are not pursuing any artistic aspirations, but would like to awaken moods and emotions. Is culture there for edification?Sterchi That was in relation to my person. I have no pretensions here. I have very great respect for artists, whether in the film or the music business, and I don’t take it upon myself to make final judge-ments. With Zermatt Unplugged, it was never my intention to create the most relevant cultural event with regard to high culture, but I did want to create a wonderful event with a cultural aspiration.

Dolce Vita am Matterhorn, Monte Cervino. Zermatt Unplugged präsentiert Umberto Tozzi, einen der berühmtesten italienischen Musiker der vergangenen Jahrzehnte. Seine Songs Gloria, Ti amo und Tu wurden weltweit gecovert. Bis heute ist Tozzi ein umtriebiger Künstler, sei es als Songschreiber, Interpret oder Komponist von Soundtracks. 2012 veröffentlichte der Turiner das Doppelalbum Yesterday, Today. Umberto Tozzi ist ein Gigant mit vielen Facetten und immerwähren-der Wandlungsfähigkeit. Die Band Stadio verschmelzt Pop-Rock und klas- sische italienische Songwritertradition. Die Band

war mit jedem ihrer Songs seit den 80ern ganz oben in den italienischen Charts vertreten. Stadio schrieben Songs für Musikgrössen wie Vasco Rossi und Gianni Morandi. Wir freuen uns auf einen italienischen Abend, der ins Herz gehen wird.

Er gilt als begnadeter Songwriter und extravagan-ter, stilsicherer Interpret: Slave To Love, Let‘s Stick Together, I Put A Spell On You, As Time Goes By, Jealous Guy. Im Winter 2012 veröffentlichte Ferry das Album The Jazz Age, eine intensive Auseinandersetzung mit den Roaring Twenties. „Gute Texte und Melodien halten ewig“, sagt Ferry.

Ferien sind die Abwesenheit des Alltags. Völlig egal, ob frau sich auf der andern Seite der Erde am Strand aalt oder sich mit Blick auf die verschneite Bergwelt in eine warme Decke kuschelt. Für die Abwesenheit des Alltags braucht es aber Personal. Schliesslich kümmert sich frau sonst selbst um alles. Die Zeiten der Entourage sind nun mal passé und auch die Köchin hat die letzte Effizienzsteigerung nicht überstanden. Die Abwesenheit des Alltags gestattet es, fremdzubereitete Nahrung zu sich zu nehmen. Selbst wenn frau das sonst noch so kreativ, effizient und routiniert erledigt.

Die täglichen Verrenkungen zur Erreichung mehr oder weniger trivialer Ziele müssen entfallen. Das Strecken nach der Decke oder das kunstvolle Färben des linken kleinen Zehs, beides verlangt schliesslich nach höchster Kon zen tration und Körperspannung. Verrenkungen solcher Art sind in den Ferien tunlichst zu vermeiden. Auch dafür braucht es Personal und ein Umfeld, das wenigstens die überlebensnotwendigsten Dinge bereitstellt. Die Zubereitung des perfekten Hendrick’s mit Gurke zum Beispiel.

Männern sei gesagt, dass Ferien nicht der geeignete Zeitpunkt sind, um das Leben neu zu planen. Diäten, Fitnessattacken und andere das Sozialleben bedrohende Verhaltensänderungen sind für den Alltag zu reservieren. Die Auszeit ist höchstens dafür geeignet, gute Vorsätze zu fassen (aber schön leise bitte); diese aber umzusetzen, ist tabu und weder dem Zusammenleben noch dem eigenen Ferienerlebnis zuträglich.

Für das perfekte Ausspannen ist weiterhin zu beachten, dass frau sich unterschiedlichen Garde

robesituationen stellen kann. Derweil für den männlichen Teil ein Anzug in Dunkel gehalten und ein handgewobener Tweed locker diesen Zweck erfüllen, sucht frau wesentlich mehr Herausforderung. Mindestens drei legitime Garderobewechsel – pro Tag wohlverstanden – müssen möglich sein und steigern das Gefühl der Abwesenheit des Alltags ungemein.

Always open, always generous and inspiring. For the artists, you incorporated something that no other organiser will probably ever embody again. Thank you for your friendship. Thank you that, as a patron, you used your name to help our young festival. We will sorely miss you.

Die vom Zermatter Künstler Heinz Julen gebaute und ausgestat-tete Club-Bühne liegt in unmittelbarer Nähe zur Zeltbühne. Hier ist der Unplugged-Gedanke entstanden, hier hat sich Zermatt Unplugged von einer Konzertreihe zum Festival entwickelt, hier performen namhafte internationale Acts. After Show Partys täglich ab Mitternacht! built and fitted out by the Zermatt artist heinz Julen, the club is in the immediate vicinity of the marquee stage. the original Unplugged idea arose here, and has developed from a small series of concerts to today’s festival. the latest feature: after show Parties every night!

Das Festivalzelt in der Mitte des Dorfes ist Dreh- und Angelpunkt des Festivalgeschehens. Mit einem Durchmesser von 48 Metern bietet das grösste Rundzelt der Schweiz das Maximum an Atmosphäre. the marquee stage in the centre of the village is the hub and pivotal point of all festival activity. with a diameter of 48 m, the largest marquee in switzerland offers the ideal atmosphere for up to 2,000 spectators.
