Diversity is a God’s-Given Gift

Ramadhan Kareem from ITERA nternational Office. Time goes so fast. We are just passed half month of Ramadhan. Fortunately, we have an event on this month. So, why don’t we combined both?

In religion’s perspective, particularly moslem, Allah SWT said through Holly Qur’an

Wa min āyātihī khalqus-samāwāti wal-

a r d i w a k h t i l ā f u a l s i n a t i k u m w a

alwānikum, inna fī żālika laāyātil lil-

'ālimīn

which means : “And of His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and the diversity of your languages and your colors. Indeed in that are signs for those of knowledge.”

God creates different human races from all over the world. It doesn’t matter the color of our skin, whether it’s yellow or white or black. Diversity is a gift. In education, we can learn about other people’s culture, sharing knowledge, and so forth. The more you understand about others, the more you will be grateful about this life. Surely, tolerancies is the most important part to reach the beauty of its.

That is one of the fundamental reason, in the eye of religion, why do you have to go abroad. Absorb the good things outside, but never forget about who you are, where are you from and keep your local wisdom.***

Hi! Greeting from ITERA International Office. I’m Novalia Anggraini. I born and grow up in Lampung, Sumatera. Luckily, I had an opportunity to study in Taiwan, National University of Tainan for my bachelor degree. Here I will share information that you might not know yet about study there.

One of the obstacles in the learning p r o c e s s i s l a n g u a g e . I n t h e undergraduate program as much as 90% of the majority of lecturers use Mandarin which is done in the teaching and learning process. The books available in the library are mostly Mandarin, and I admit. It makes me a little bit difficult to understanding the content. However, it lets me learn the language faster. But don’t w o r r y, M a s t e r D e g r e e program most courses are taught in English.

The living cost in Taiwan is depend on campus location and residence. In big cities

like Taipei or Kaohsiung, the cost of living is relatively higher, and in the small cities like Zhongli and Tainan the living cost is relatively cheaper.M o s t I n d o n e s i a n s t u d e n t s g e t scholarships to pay tuition fees and daily l i v e e x p e n s e s f r o m t h e Ta i w a n Government, origin’s university, DIKTI, Regional Government in Indonesia while the rest use personal money or parents. Sometimes, student have to struggle by working part-time to fit the living cost in

Taiwan. So, better use your money effectively!

Most Indonesian students in Taiwan stay in campus dormitories, some others stay in private apartment o u t s i d e c a m p u s o r

homestay. Moslem student especially, difficult to get Halal food. Usually we cook o u r o w n f o o d i n t h e dormitory. The point is, you have to be adaptable easily. Nothing can stop us from learning in other’s country, other’s culture. ***
