Top-Trends 2018
Der Handel im Wandel entwickelt sich aktuell
sehr schnell weiter. Erlebniswelten werden ge-
schaffen und LED bleibt dabei natürlich weiter
auf dem Vormarsch. Außerdem sind ganzheit-
liche Beleuchtungskonzepte gefragt, welche

Top trends for 2018 / There are currently three
primary developments in retail lighting. First, LED
technology continues to gain ground of course.
Increasing numbers of shops are upgrading,
both in the food and non-food sector. There is also
high demand for holistic lighting concepts that
deliberately coordinate individual light sources
with each other. However, it’s not just about
creating points of emphasis. Lighting creates
themed worlds that transform shopping into an
experience. Find out more on page 6.

Today, light has to do much more
than just provide illumination,”
says Benjamin Garufo, General
Manager Retail Lighting. “It turns mod-
ern stores into stages.” And after all,
this is precisely what customers expect
when they visit the shops, or even just
stop in at the supermarket round the
corner. According to a recent study
by PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers ac-
counting firm), 59% of those surveyed
thought appealing store design was
very important.

umso wichtiger, attraktiv zu bleiben,

Fashion figures
The curtain rises on the show right
from the entrance area – after all, first
impressions count. Whether in a chic
boutique, discount retailer or a major
department store, it’s important that
the customer immediately feels a sense
of wellbeing. Lighting is an easy way to
subtly welcome customers to the store.
Warm white general lighting creates a
cosy and friendly impression. Spotlights
and track lights provide orientation and
steer potential shoppers’ attention to-
wards promotional goods or particular
trends. But light does more than just
create mood and atmosphere. It also
creates identity and can support brand

it’s also essential to update the shop

Stationery, which faces a greater

an even greater challenge. Regular

wesentliche Rolle. Um den Kunden
immer wieder zu begeistern und neu-
gierig zu machen, muss die Ware re-
gelmäßig neu arrangiert und Tische
müssen anders aufgestellt werden.
Auch saisonale Veränderungen gehö-
ren hier zum Tagesgeschäft. „Wenn
ich eine Weihnachtspräsentation ma-
che, wäre ein warmes Licht dazu an-
genehm. Bei etwas Technischem, wie
USB-Sticks, ist etwas kühleres, sau-
beres schöner“, führt Walter Liebl,
Geschäftsführer der Papeteriewelt im
Donau-Einkaufszentrum in Regens-
burg, genauer aus. Denn gerade in
einer so schwierigen Branche muss
Licht mehr denn je einen Kaufanreiz
schaffen. Steuerungssysteme unter-
stützen die Dramaturgie, indem sie
viele verschiedene Möglichkeiten er-
öffnen, die Produkte immer wieder
neu und individuell zu inszenieren.
„Ein anderes Problem ist, dass un-
ser Sortiment sehr kleinteilig ist und
dadurch schnell unaufgeräumt wirkt“,
merkt Geschäftsführerin Berit Liebl
an. „Mit Licht kannst du beeinflus-
sen, ob Bereiche, trotz einer hohen
Warendichte und unterschiedlicher
Warengruppen auf kleiner Fläche, eine
ruhige und angenehme Atmosphäre
ausstrahlen oder eben nicht.“
Lebensmittel in Multicolor
Ganz andere Schwerpunkte setzt
dabei der Supermarkt. Während in
den Gangzonen eine Helligkeit von
etwa 200 Lux die Regel ist, sollte die
Ware im Regal mit 500 Lux beleuch-
tet werden. Lichtleisten in speziellen
Lichtfarben betonen dabei die indivi-
duellen Eigenschaften von Käse und
Backwaren, Fleisch, Wurst und Fisch
sowie Obst und Gemüse. Doch auch
hier gibt es saisonale Displays, z. B.
mit Süßigkeiten für Ostern, und güns-
tige Aktionsware, die der Kunde ent-
asant complement. On the other hand,
something colder and cleaner is more
appealing for technical products such
as USB sticks,” explains Walter Liebl,
Managing Director of Papeteriewelt
at the Donau-Einkaufszentrum in Re-
gensburg. After all, it’s truer now than
ever before that light has to encourage
customers to buy, particularly in such a
difficult industry. Control systems sup-
port dramatic composition by opening
up many different opportunities for con-
stantly redesigning and customising the
presentation of products.
“Another problem is that our range
is full of small items, meaning that it
quickly looks untidy,” notes Managing
Director Berit Liebl. “Lighting allows you
to influence whether or not a particular
section has a calm and comfortable at-
mosphere, in spite of a high density of
goods and diverse groups of goods in
a small area.”
Food in multi-colour
Supermarkets, on the other hand,
have a very different focus. While in the
aisles a brightness of about 200 lux is
the norm, the goods on the shelf should
be illuminated with 500 lux. Light strips
can be used in special lighting colours
to emphasise the individual properties
of cheese and baked goods, meat, cold
cuts, and fish, as well as fruit and vege-
tables. And there are also seasonal dis-
plays for the customer to discover, such
as sweet treats at Easter and low-cost
promotional goods.
Flexible light systems can be adjus-
ted in such a way that they constantly
put the focus on different areas. Spot-
lighting attracts customer attention and
entices them to buy. At the same time,
the supermarket can regularly present
its new assortment in different ways.
And anyone who can’t get enough,

Zusammenspiel am POS
Ein harmonisches Beleuchtungskon-
zept setzt auf verschiedene Licht-
quellen und berücksichtigt sowohl
die Architektur, als auch Farben und
Interieur eines Raums. Vorrangig be-
stimmt die Allgemeinbeleuchtung an
der Decke die Atmosphäre [1] . Ent-
scheidend ist jedoch das Zusammen-
spiel mit der Akzentbeleuchtung, die
besondere Waren und Bereiche her-
vorhebt [2] . Licht im Regal lenkt die
Aufmerksamkeit der Kunden noch ein-
mal gezielt auf einzelne Produkte [3] .
Im gekühlten Bereich geht es zusätz-
lich darum, der Geometrie der Möbel
gerecht zu werden und mit Lichtfarbe
und Abstrahlwinkel die Ware in Szene
zu setzen [4] .
Interaction at the POS
A harmonious lighting concept is based
on different light sources and takes the
architecture as well as the colours and
interior of a room into account. Prima-
rily, there the general lighting on the
ceiling determines the atmosphere [1].
The interaction with the accent lighting,
which emphasizes special goods and
areas is also very important [2]. Once
again the shelf lighting draws the atten-
tion of the customers to individual pro-
ducts [3]. In the cooled area, you have
to consider the geometry of the furniture
and to highlight the goods with a tailor-
made light colour and beam angle [4].

„Licht ist eine Göttlichkeit!“Im Interview verrät Handelsexperte und Lichtplaner Wolfgang Gruschwitz, warum und
wie gerade Licht den modernen Retailbereich revolutionieren kann.
Light is a divinity / An interview with construction engineer and lighting planner Wolfgang
Gruschwitz, as he explains why and how light can revolutionise the modern retail sector.
Wie wichtig ist Licht im Ladenbau?
Es spielt eine extrem wichtige Rol-
le. Ohne Licht kann ich keine Emotio-
nen wecken und die Ware auch nicht
theatralisch in Szene setzen. Wenn
man ein Produkt mit Licht und Schat-
ten inszeniert, wirkt es gleich viel äs-
thetischer und schöner. Das belegen
auch Untersuchungen. Denn das Auge
isst immer mit. Und der Appetit kommt
ja bekanntlich beim Essen.
How important is light in shopfitting?
It plays an extremely important role.
Without light, I can’t inspire emotions
and also can't showcase goods and
put them centre stage. Using light and
shade to present a product immedia-
tely makes it more appealing and more
beautiful – a finding which is supported
by studies. After all, the first bite is with
the eye; and as we all know, appetite
comes with eating.
Gleichzeitig be-
steht aber auch ein starkes Bedürfnis
nach höherer Lichtintensität und nach
Inszenierung. Das macht eine Strom-
ersparnis oft schwierig. Allerdings
haben LEDs eine erheblich höhere Le-
bensdauer und auch die Wartungszy-
klen sind ganz anders.
What developments have you noti-
ced in lighting?
Since the arrival of LED technology,
of course people have been wanting lo-
wer levels of energy consumption. How-
ever, higher light intensity and product
showcasing are also in high demand
– which can make energy savings dif-
ficult. On the other hand, LEDs have a
significantly longer service life, and the
maintenance cycles are very different.

Wie setzen Sie Licht in den unter-
schiedlichen Bereichen ein?
Einen hochwertigen Bereich stat-
ten wir natürlich mit Licht und Schat-
ten aus, um ihn zu theatralisieren.
Mittels Lichtsteuerungen kann man
das noch mit Farbe untermalen. In Be-
reichen mit günsigerem Preissegment
und geringerer Aufenhaltsdauer ist
eher weißes, flächiges Licht gefordert
und weniger Highlights.
Worauf muss man bei der Aus-
leuchtung von Produkten achten?
Es macht einen Unterschied, ob
man Möbel oder Textilien beleuch-
tet, Leder oder Haushaltswaren. Und
auch der vorherrschende Materialmix
ist entscheidend. Metall reflektiert
zum Beispiel anders als Kunststoff.
Das Licht muss man dann natürlich
entsprechend einstellen. Außerdem
How do you use light in the various
in-store areas?
We of course use light and shade to
properly set the stage in premium are-
as. Light controls mean that colour can
also be used for further emphasis. A
white, flat light and fewer highlights are
required in lower-price-segment areas
where customers spend less time.
What do you need to bear in mind
when illuminating products?
I need to consider whether it’s fur-
niture or textiles, leather or household
goods being illuminated, as they require
different approaches. The predominant
material mix is also crucial: for example,
metal and plastic reflect light in different
ways. So of course you need to adjust
the light accordingly. We also do a great
deal of work with multimedia and omni-
channel communication. It’s particularly

17
arbeiten wir sehr viel mit Multimedia
und Omnichannel. Da ist es beson-
ders wichtig, dass man beim Beleuch-
tungskonzept darauf achtet, dass kei-
ne Spiegelungen entstehen.
Welche Fehler sind zu vermeiden?
Spiegelungen und Reflexionen
sollte man auf jeden Fall gewollt und
bewusst einsetzen. Sonst lenken sie
eher ab. Damit Licht schmeichelt,
sollte es auch von vorne und nicht nur
von oben kommen. So entstehen kei-
ne harten Schatten. Um einen für die
Augen anstrengenden Effekt zu ver-
hindern, sollten Lichtpunkte auf Licht-
bändern mattiert werden.
Wohin, denken Sie, entwickelt sich
die Shop-Beleuchtung?
Visual Merchandising und Produkt-
inszenierung werden eine wichtige Rol-
le spielen. Deshalb muss die Intuition
angesprochen werden. Händler müs-
sen die Aufenthaltsqualität und den Er-
lebnisfaktor verbessern, einen Mehr-
wert schaffen. Man muss vom Druck
des Verkaufens weg zu einer Sogkraft
hin. Diese kann nur entstehen, wenn
man Events veranstaltet und die Leu-
te integriert, begeistert und unterhält.
Um Kunden hereinzulocken muss ich
in bewegtes Licht gehen, farbiges
Licht geschickt einsetzen und in die
Tiefe ziehen, das heißt ich muss par-
tiell auch anders beleuchten.
Was fasziniert Sie an Licht?
Ich arbeite seit 25 Jahren in dieser
Branche und Licht war schon immer
ein Thema. Man kann etwas durch
Licht zerstören, indem man es falsch
oder gar nicht anleuchtet. Und man
kann mit Licht inszenieren. Schon im
Mittelalter haben Architekten bei Kir-
chen viel mit Licht gearbeitet, theatra-
lisch, manipulierend und sehr göttlich.
Licht ist eine Göttlichkeit. Ohne Licht
kann der Mensch nicht leben.
important here that the lighting concept
creates no reflections on the screens.
What are the mistakes to avoid?
Mirroring and reflections should
always be used intentionally and con-
sciously. Otherwise they tend to be a
distraction. To make sure that lighting is
flattering, it should also come from the
front rather than just from above, to avo-
id casting hard shadows. Light points
on light bands should be frosted to pre-
vent strain to customers’ eyes.
What direction do you think the
development of shop lighting is ta-
king?
Visual merchandising and product
presentation will play an important role,
and so we need to engage intuitively.
Retailers need to improve the quality
of time spent in-store and the “experi-
ence” element – and to create added
value. We need to move away from the
pressure of selling and towards enticing
customers, which is only possible if we
shape events and integrate, inspire and
entertain people. To tempt people in,
I need lively light, colourful light, and
have to draw customers into the depths
of the store – meaning that I also have
to use different lighting in some areas.
What you find fascinating about
light?
I’ve been working in the industry for
25 years, and light has always been a
key topic. You can destroy something
with light, by using an appropriate illu-
mination or none at all. And you can set
a stage with light. Even in the Middle
Ages, architects did a lot of work with
light in churches – using theatre, mani-
pulation and the divine. Light is a divini-
ty! We can’t live without light.

Power and energy
It was also important to Günther
Sesselmann that light should be used to
create a relaxing atmosphere. “My busi-
ness should become a place of power,”
he says, setting out his ambitions. “And
that requires appropriately calm and co-
herent light. Customers should feel re-
laxed.” So downlights are precisely the
right choice. They illuminate the relevant
areas in a targeted way, without glare
or the light becoming uncomfortably
bright. At the same time, a CRI value
gleichmäßig hell. Aus diesem Grund
war für uns die Flexibilität und Ab-
strahlcharakteristik bei der Auswahl
entscheidend“, erklärt Lichtplanerin

Kraft und Energie
Außerdem war es Günther Sessel-
mann wichtig, eine entspannte Atmo-
sphäre durch Licht zu schaffen. „Mein

A light pleasure in the bakery / Max Wimmer’s bakery is a “home from

MOMENTS
Um die Waren besser in Sze-
ne zu setzen und noch mehr
potentielle Käufer in den La-
den zu locken, sollte die Emmeringer
Filiale der großen Münchner Bäcke-
reikette eine neue Beleuchtung be-
kommen. Dabei war Bäckermeister
Max Wimmer vor allem ein stimmiges
Gesamtkonzept wichtig. Zum einen
wünschte er sich, dass seine Back-
waren in Zukunft vorteilhafter zur Gel-
tung kommen. „Es sieht eben doch
deutlich appetitlicher aus, wenn das
Licht stimmt, also wenn die Farbtöne
passen“, erklärt er überzeugt. Außer-
dem sollte es hell sein, ohne ungemüt-
lich zu wirken. Ledxon hat deshalb die
komplette Lichtausstattung für Theke,
Regale und Decke erneuert.
Technik zum Wohlfühlen
Zum Einsatz kamen die DLB-
Lichtleisten, die dank asymmetrischer
Lichtverteilung eine auslagentiefe
Ausleuchtung der Backwaren gewähr-
leisten. In der Decke wurden Down-
lights verbaut. Neben der damit ein-
hergehenden Energieersparnis ging
es vor allem darum, die Beleuchtung
an die Gegebenheiten des Raums
anzupassen und eine moderne und
stimmige Wohlfühl-Atmosphäre zu
schaffen. Für die Lichtleisten in der
Theke und den Regalen sowie die da-
rüber platzierten Downlights wählte
ledxon deshalb die Lichtfarbe Cheese
& pastry. Der erhöhte Gelbanteil im
Weißlicht betont natürlich die Farbtö-
ne von ofenfrischem Gebäck und Brot
mit einer knusprigen Kruste. Dies stei-
gert den Kaufanreiz. Die Downlights

This Munich bakery chain’s
branch is to be given new light-
ing systems to better showcase
their products and tempt potential buy-
ers into the store. Max Wimmer played
a crucial role in achieving a consistent
overall concept. Primarily, he wanted
the baked goods to be beautifully pre-
sented. “It all looks much more appetis-
ing if the light is right, and if the tones
are appropriate,” he explains. He also
wanted it to be bright without feeling
uncomfortable. And so ledxon entirely
renewed all the lighting systems for the
counter, shelving, and ceiling.
Technology supports wellbeing
DLB light strips with special lens
technology were used in the counter
and shelving, as well as in downlights
in the ceiling. In addition to the asso-
ciated energy savings, the primary ob-
jective was to adapt the illumination to
the room’s properties and create a con-
temporary and consistent atmosphere
of wellbeing. For this reason, ledxon
chose the Cheese & pastry light colour
for the light strips in the counter and
the shelving, as well as the downlights
placed above them. The high proportion
of yellow in the white light emphasises
the natural tones of oven-fresh pastries
and crisply crusted bread, encouraging
customers to buy. The downlights in
the entrance area welcome customers
in with a neutral white light, creating
a contrast that directs their attention
straight to the products on offer. At the
same time, the clean design of the cei-
ling-mounted lights also enhances the
bakery’s visual appeal from the outside.
“I think it’s all gone fantastically well,”
says Max Wimmer with enthusiasm.
“The lighting is a great fit for our set-up.”

Good light is very important for
me," explains Stefan Stock
from the Edeka subsidiary in
Ergoldsbach. As head of the super-
market, he knows that light is a crucial
factor in optimizing food while illuminat-
ing it brightly. This allows customers to
read the labels on the packaging well.
The old luminaires in the cooling area
were almost all faulty and so he took
the opportunity to convert to LED ligh-
ting. Not only the cost factor played a
role. It was also a quick implementa-
tion required. For ledxon, the choice
of the right light colour and targeted
light control in the design of the free-
zers and refrigerated multidecks in the
market was therefore essential.
Custom-fit beam angle
For the furniture geometry of the
freezers, the DLB-B asym with its
asymmetrical radiation characteris-
tics was the perfect solution. The spe-
cial lens adjusts the light distribution
to the furniture, so that the light bar
illuminates the goods display evenly.
It will be attached by magnetic clips,
which allows maximum flexibility.
Within the fixture, the bar can be ro-
tated until it is in the optimal position
to illuminate the entire area of the fur-
niture. In this way, the customer also
has the option to fine-tune the lighting
himself and can react quickly and ea-
sily to small changes.
For the refrigerated multidecks they
used the MDL-T. Due to the double
light emission, it illuminates all display
fronts up to the canopy with a con-
sistently bright colour. The matched
light colours present the products na-
turally and fresh.

costs for the customer, ledxon takes

Die Ware steht unmittelbar im Ram-

One challenge of the project was that,
instead of a rear panel, the windows
have four fully glazed sides. A combi-
nation of 50° and 24° beam angles were
used to illuminate all areas of the dis-
play windows. When matched with the
right light alignment and brightness, this
creates an appealing level of lighting.

The ledxon fitters have now finished
removing the old lights, and are now se-
curing the track lights to the tracks with
an audible click. Having precisely positi-

Etwa 95 Prozent unserer Ener-

Walter Liebl von der Papeteriewelt
in Regensburg. In der Retailbran-
che spielt dieses Problem oft eine
entscheidende Rolle. Während im
Foodbereich die Beleuchtung mit 25
Prozent der zweitgrößte Stromver-
braucher ist, kommt sie im Non-Food-
Bereich mit 56 Prozent sogar auf Platz
eins. Das zeigt eine aktuelle Studie
des EHI Retail Institute zum Thema
Energieverbrauch. Rein faktisch steigt
die Energieeffizienz, je weniger Strom
bei gleich bleibender Beleuchtungs-
stärke benötigt wird.
Sparen und effizient bleiben
Hinter dem Begriff Energieeffizienz
verbergen sich jedoch gerade im Re-
tailbereich viel mehr Überlegungen,
als lediglich der Versuch, die Strom-
kosten zu senken. „Wir betrachten
jedes Projekt als Individuum, und pa-
cken es ganzheitlich an“, erklärt Sil-
vana Torretta, Key Account Manager

derner werden will, sind die derzeiti-
Walter Liebl from Pape-
teriewelt in Regensburg be-
lieves that 95% of our ener-
gy costs go on lighting. This problem is
often key in the retail industry. Lighting
uses 25% of power in the food sector,
making it the second-largest consumer,
while in the non-food sector it’s the larg-
est, at 56% according to a recent study
on the subject of energy consumption,
conducted by the EHI Retail Institute.
Purely looking at the definition of energy
efficiency, we can say that it increases
as less power is required to achieve a
consistent light intensity.
Save and stay efficient
However, retail presents many ener-
gy efficiency considerations apart from
purely trying to reduce energy costs.
“We look at each project on an indivi-
dual basis, and take an integrated ap-
proach,” explains Silvana Torretta, Key
Account Manager for Retail at ledxon.
“When the customer tells us from the
beginning that he wants something
more contemporary, the existing ligh-
ting units may no longer be suitable for

passend. Dann könnte es sein, dass
invasiver umgebaut werden muss, um
das neue Beleuchtungskonzept ein-
zupassen. In diesem Fall rechnet sich
das wahrscheinlich nicht mehr auf
eineinhalb Jahre, sondern erst auf vier
oder fünf.“ Dafür sei die Ausleuchtung
der Ware aber besser, so Torretta.
Der Laden werde dadurch attraktiver,
ziehe mehr Kunden an und mache da-
modate the new lighting concept. If that
is the case, we’re probably no longer
looking an 18-month process, but so-
mething more likely to take four or five
years.” Torretta adds that the results
leave goods much better illuminated
which makes the shop more attractive,
attracts more customers and of course
achieves higher sales.

durch natürlich größeren Umsatz.
Wichtige Fragen für eine ganzheit-
liche Planung sind: Gibt es neue Mö-
bel oder ein Regal, das vorher nicht
beleuchtet war und jetzt beleuch-
tet werden soll? Sind große Fenster
oder Oberlichter vorhanden, durch
die viel Tageslicht hereinfällt? Dann
sind dimmbare Leuchten oder eine
Steuerung sinnvoll, die es erlaubt,
das Licht nach Bedarf zu regulieren.
Wie stark reflektieren Wände, Decke
und Boden? Weiß streut zum Beispiel
mehr Licht als andere Farben. Welche
Leuchten werden eingesetzt? LED-
Technik wandelt die meiste Energie in
Licht um, und ist darum am energie-
effizientesten. Wie hoch ist der War-
tungsaufwand? Und natürlich, wo soll
das Licht hin? Eine Beleuchtung ist
umso effizienter, je gezielter sie das
Licht lenkt. Die Lichtleisten von led-
xon sind mit einer speziellen Linsen-
technologie ausgestattet. Durch das
gerichtete Licht kommt es zu weniger
Streuverlusten und es landen trotz we-
niger Lumen mehr Lux auf dem Pro-
dukt. So ist eine gleichmäßigere, ge-
zieltere Warenausleuchtung möglich,
als mit vergleichbaren Lichtleisten
ohne Linse. Das bedeutet mehr Licht
bei weniger Energieaufwand.
Gutes Licht ist relativ
Auch die einzelnen Lichtquellen
müssen aufeinander abgestimmt wer-
den. „Zu viel Licht kann sich genau-
so negativ auswirken wie zu wenig“,
geht Robert Recht, Geschäftsführer
Bereich Großhandel, genauer auf die
besondere Herausforderung bei der
Planung ein. „Ist das Regal etwa sehr
hell, darf es an der Decke durchaus
weniger sein.“ Das spart nicht nur
Kosten. Es lenkt auch die Aufmerk-
samkeit der Kunden gezielt auf die
Ware und verführt so zum Kauf. Und
furniture or shelving that was previous-
ly not illuminated and now should be?
Are there any large windows or skylights
that let in daylight? In some cases, dim-
mable lights or a controller are useful to
enable light to be controlled as needed.
How reflective are the walls, ceiling and
floor? For example, white diffuses more
light than other colours. What lights
should be used? LED technology con-
verts most of the energy supplied into
light, making it the most energy-efficient
technology available. What will mainte-
nance costs be? And of course, where
should the light be directed? The more
targeted lighting is, the more efficient it
becomes.
Light strips from ledxon are equip-
ped with a special lens technology. Tar-
geted light means less loss in intensity
resulting from scattering, and means
that more lux land on the product de-
spite fewer lumens. This enables more
even and more targeted product illumi-
nation than is achievable with compa-
rable light strips that don’t have a lens,
resulting in more light with less expen-
diture on energy.
Good light is relative
Individual light sources also need to
be coordinated with one another. “The
effect of too much light can be just as
negative as too little,” comments Robert
Recht, General Manager Wholesale,
addressing this particular planning chal-
lenge in more detail. “So if the shelving
is very bright, for example, less light is
required from the ceiling.” This not only
saves costs, but also directs customers’
attention to the goods in a targeted way,
enticing them purchase. Which, after all,
is one of the main objectives in retail.
In some instances, attracting shop-
pers requires careful consideration.
“For example, one customer wanted a
completely new lighting concept in his

die Ware zusätzlich besser in Szene zu
setzen, kamen deshalb noch weitere
Brennstellen dazu. Im Vergleich zu vor-

effektivere Ausleuchtung der Fläche.

were used to showcase the products
better; although the cost savings achie-
ved aren’t as high as they could have
been, the concept is efficient. Energy
costs are still lower than they were pre-
viously, and now the illumination is sig-
nificantly more effective.
Yet more savings
Of course, there are always costs
associated with upgrades and new in-
stallations. However, help is at hand for
small and mid-sized retailer businesses.
The European Union and the German
Federal Government offer various op-
portunities for financial support, such
as the “Deutschland macht’s effizient”
initiative. These include grants up to €
8,000, to spend on an energy efficiency
consultant.
Ledxon addresses customers’ ambi-

das ist schließlich eines der Hauptzie-
le im Einzelhandel.
In manchen Fällen ist es allerdings
auch wichtig abzuwägen. „Ein Kunde
wollte zum Beispiel in seinem Unter-
geschoss ein komplett neues Licht-
konzept“, erinnert sich Silvana Tor-
retta. „Rein um die Kosten zu senken,
hätte es ausgereicht, die Leuchten
einfach auszutauschen. So hätte der
Kunde zwar Energie eingespart, aber
underground level,” recalls Silvana Tor-
retta. “On purely cost-saving grounds,
it would have been enough to simply
replace the lights. This would probably
have saved energy. But it would have
meant that possible improvments in the
lighting concept would have been disre-
garded. In addition to the cost savings,
we always try to provide customers with
added value, so that there are no dark

ziellen Unterstützung, wie etwa die

ent“. Darin sind auch Zuschüsse bis

Ledxon geht bereits bei der Be-

individuelle Situation des Kunden ein.
„Wir fragen immer nach dem Budget“,
erklärt Silvana Torretta. „Und das neh-
men wir auch sehr ernst. Wir sind nicht
getrieben, immer die modernsten Pro-
dukte an den Kunden zu verkaufen,
sondern versuchen, ihm für seine Mit-
tel die bestmögliche Lösung anzubie-
ten.“ Der Kunde kommt schließlich an
erster Stelle und er soll zufrieden sein.
Eine Umrüstung lohnt sich also
auch bei einem kleinen Budget. Der
Umfang bleibt schließlich jedem selbst
überlassen, nachdem er die verschie-
denen Faktoren von den Kosten bis
hin zum Lichtkonzept durchdacht hat.
Neubauten sollten am besten von

the consultancy stage. “We always ask
about budget,” explains Silvana Torret-
ta. “And we take it very seriously. We’re
not driven simply by always selling
cutting-edge products to customers;
instead, we try to find the best possible
solution that fits their means.” At the end
of the day, the customer always comes
first and should be satisfied.
So even with a small budget, it’s
worth looking at a lighting upgrade. The
scope is ultimately decided by each
client, after they have considered vari-
ous factors, from cost to lighting con-
cept. New installations should ideally
be based on energy-efficient illuminati-
on from the outset. Not only does this
benefit the environment, but in the long
term the client’s own purse will feel the
difference too.

Den höchsten CRI-Wert (Farb-

hoher CRI macht Sinn, wenn

Answer 1 – Sun
The sun and light bulb achieve
the highest CRI (colour rendering
index) value, at 100 Ra. In ge-
neral, the following applies: A
high CRI is best if the object to
be illuminated should be pre-
sented as naturally and realis-
tically as possible, for example
for clothing window displays in
shops. However, if you want to
accentuate the tones of food,

lower colour rendering index
may be helpful.
